Song of the Week Week 26 2026 - Tay Keith Tribute

BlocBoy JB & Drake, Travis Scott & Drake, Key Glock, Drake & Beyoncé

This week I had some other songs to put but with the recent passing of a producer named Tay Keith I decided to put a few of his songs up that you will have heard. For a Memphis (USA) producer he made big waves in the hip-hop scene, making songs for some of the top artists and ones you listen to along with some of Drake's heavy hitters.

You will also know him for his producer tag that says "Tay Keith, f**k these ni**as up" at the start of a song. This is one of the leading producer tags around, alongside ATL Jacob's one "ATL Jacob, ATL Jacob".

Anyway here are some of the tracks he blessed us with producing and that will live on forever, all timeless hits.

BlocBoy JB & Drake "Look Alive" Prod By: Tay Keith (Official Music Video) - BlocBoy JB & Drake

Look alive, look alive.... This is one of the first tracks that propelled the South Memphis producer worldwide, as this grimy track with BlocBoy JB & Drake went off around the world and was such a unique song. It also started a crazy dance trend across TikTok and everywhere else.

Travis Scott - SICKO MODE (Official Video) ft. Drake - Travis Scott ft. Drake

Now songs don't get as big as this. It chart-topped around the world and hit number 1 on the Billboard charts while spending 32 weeks in the top 10. This song by Travis Scott & Drake, produced by Tay Keith, needs no introduction, it's such a heavy hit. "Goin' on you with the pick and roll" fire hazard track.

Key Glock - Russian Cream - Key Glock

Ice Ice baby.... uh-huh. The next one is one of Key Glock's (one of my favourite rappers) first heavy-hitting songs that helped propel him around the USA. What makes this even more special is he is a South Memphis rapper teamed up with a South Memphis producer in Tay Keith, so it's always special when two people from the same city work together to put their city on the map.

This track is greatly produced and has the ice-cold Key Glock just gliding over it with his slick lyricism and delivery. Such a timeless hit in the hip-hop world.

Drake - Nonstop - Drake

IYKYK, not only was this a top 10 Drake hit, the track production is off the charts. Yeah I just flipped the switch... I'm typing while listening to this and it's hard to focus and type as this is a hit, everything about it. When this drops in the club people know what time it is.

The bass and drums are crazy. I'd say Drake's delivery and the music production are set to perfection level in this. You put it on and don't want to turn it off. It's hard to hit Rewind on this but the picks must go on.

Before I Let Go (Homecoming Live Bonus Track) - Beyoncé

Such a great track. Listen to the instruments in this and the way it flows if you zone out the singing, another level. Also, to work with Beyoncé is huge as a producer too. Also look out for the switch up at 1:42 minutes, such a genius move.

So Tay Keith blessed us with so much music in his short life here. With over 800+ song credits there is lots more out there he has produced and made us all rock out to.

Not only was he a producer, he made a change in this world. First he made it out of the tough streets of South Memphis, then he graduated from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in December 2018 with bachelor's degrees in Integrated Studies and Media Management.

He was also an entrepreneur and philanthropist who partnered with the American Cancer Society in 2025 to launch the "Music For Healing" initiative. He donated custom speakers and instruments to Hope Lodge facilities across Tennessee to help provide comfort for cancer patients, doing so in honour of his late mother, LaToya.

His other notable philanthropic and educational contributions included partnering with the Save The Music Foundation to donate a hybrid piano, keyboards, and various instruments to a Nashville high school. He also spearheaded the My Memphis Poetry Challenge to inspire young creatives in his hometown, and contributed his time and resources to Middle Tennessee State University, where he was named an honorary professor.

Such a big loss to the music world and we honestly need more people like this making those big changes and showing people that all is possible.
