Song of the Week Week 23 2026 - London 2000s Urban Special
Various London Streets
This week is a UK special week showcasing the urban songs many of us grew up on from 2000–2003. These were the tracks that bumped at under-16 parties, parties, the streets and wherever the F you was.
This is a good insight for anyone else to see what songs were bumping in the UK in the 2000s and what the youth listened to, and how it shaped British culture back then.
Anyone remember 21 Seconds and the guy with the 1 Nike glove? Then everyone was rocking one Nike glove and designer contact lenses. xD IKYK.
Finally, all these urban songs mostly was rocking on Channel U. Many ppl would catch these on Channel U - the MTV for the streets in the UK at the time.
Back In The Day - Asher D
I'm not going to lie, this Song of the Week contains a good number and a lot is So Solid Crew as we know they had the 2000s on lock. Here is a great Asher D track that I used to bump hard.
I Swear - N-Dubz
If you are not from the UK, just understand this song was released on Channel U around 2005 and took over the whole of the UK all year. Everywhere you went you would hear N-Dubz, it blew them up in the UK and still bangs today. How many of those Dappy hats got sold after this video?
21 Seconds - So Solid Crew
This needs no introduction. This song took the UK by storm from 2001 to at least 2003 and could be one of the best urban songs to be released in the UK to date. It seriously took over every under-16 party, every club, every party you name it, and this was playing. Not only did it take over the whole UK, everyone started rocking designer contact lenses and the 1 glove. In my opinion, this is one of the most impactful songs to come out of the UK urban scene because it actually hit UK Number 1 on the charts — which is huge for a South London street/garage song and started some fashion waves too.
Oh No (Sentimental Things) - So Solid Crew
Any classic from So Solid Crew who were the main group to bring the garage sound to the UK and radio play.
They Don't Know - So Solid Crew
Another heavy hit in the UK, especially in the UK garage/grime world. This was huge and still bangs - another so solid banger.
Oi - More Fire Crew
Another heavy UK hit, especially in the garage/grime scene. This one peaked at number 8 on the UK charts, which is great for that lane, and it was everywhere on the Sidewinder tapes with DJ EZ.
The Ends - Are You Really From Da Endz
Ok I'm going to stop here as I can carry on for days, but here is another underground track that rocked the UK grime and bassline scene. Make sure to also check YouTube for Heartless Crew - 'Heartless Theme', Dizzee Rascal - 'I Luv You', Pay As U Go Cartel - 'Champagne Dance', and more.
Ayah Bass - Virus Syndicate ft Trigga
I had to come back and add 1 last pick for Virus Syndicate who was carrying the North of UK as well as Manchester legend Trigga. Many times I seen Virus Syndicate in community shows and randoml around Timperley 🤷.
Wish we could rewind time back to the early 2000s just to skank out to these garage and grime tunes for one week only and then forward back to today. This was the UK's golden era growing up as a teenager with these urban songs.
