Rikstar Selects Week 35 2026 - Totó la Momposina: History, Cumbia & Traditional Music of Colombia
Totó la Momposina
Totó la Momposina: Historia, Cumbia y Música Tradicional de Colombia | Cantoras | Encuentro - Totó la Momposina
I really enjoyed this one. I've listened to a lot of Latin genres over the years, but it was cumbia that really hit my soul. It is so infectious, all the instruments used as well as the singing.
Totó la Momposina, such an amazing joyful woman, takes you on a journey through the history of cumbia and its roots, as well as her own story and performing at the historic 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature banquet honoring the Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez, which put cumbia in front of Europe on the biggest stage there is.
Please note: for any English speakers who want to learn more, just flip your subtitles to auto translate to English on YouTube. You can also auto dub to English, but it is much better to change the subtitles so you do not lose the context and the real sounds of cumbia.
