Best Latin House Songs and Tracks to Know
2026-11-05
The best latin house songs include Afro Medusa's "Pasilda," River Ocean and India's "Love & Happiness (Yemaya y Ochún)," HUGEL and Cumbiafrica's "Morenita" and Dennis Cruz's "El Sueño." This guide covers the latin house songs worth knowing, from the 1980s pioneers to the tracks filling floors right now.
If you have been searching for the best latin house songs and keep landing on random playlists, this is the shortlist I would hand a friend. Every track here is real, correctly credited and checked before it went on the list.
I'm DJ Rikstar, a DJ who covers latin house, house and afro house, and latin house is a regular part of my mixes. These are the tracks I keep coming back to, the ones that show where the genre came from and why it still works on a dance floor.
How We Picked These Latin House Songs
This is not an official chart and it is not a ranking by streams. It is a DJ's pick of the tracks that define latin house, from the songs that built the genre to the modern latin house hits you will hear in clubs today.
Three things got a track on the list. It had to be a defining record, a genuine classic, or a reliable floor-filler. And it had to be verifiable, with the artist and title confirmed before I wrote a word about it.
I have grouped the songs into classics, modern essentials and current tracks rather than numbering them. Comparing a 1985 Chicago record with a 2024 Toolroom release on a single scale would be meaningless.
One more thing. Some of the best latin house tracks sit on the border with tech house or deep house. Where that is the case, I say so.
Best Latin House Songs and Tracks
Here is the core list. Each latin house song comes with the artist, a short note on why it matters and what it sounds like.
The Classics (1985 to 2002)
Jesse Velez - "Girls Out On The Floor"
This 1985 record is where the story starts. Jesse Velez was a Puerto Rican DJ from Chicago, and he mixed Spanish and English lyrics on a percussive track released on Trax Records, the label at the heart of early house.
Raz - "Amour Puerto Riqueno"
A steamy 1986 house track that Beatportal lists among the first Latin house records. It shows how quickly Latin flavor found its way into the new sound coming out of the clubs.
Liz Torres feat. Master C&J - "Can't Get Enough"
Released in 1988, this one comes from the same early wave. Louie Vega himself has named Liz Torres and Master C&J among the artists putting Latin influences into house in the mid to late 1980s.
Little Louie Vega & Marc Anthony - "Ride On The Rhythm"
Before Marc Anthony became a salsa icon, he sang freestyle and house. This was the lead single from his 1991 Latin house album with Louie Vega producing, and it still sounds fresh.
River Ocean feat. India - "Love & Happiness (Yemaya y Ochún)"
If you only learn one 1990s latin house song, make it this one. India recorded it with Louie Vega in 1994, and it is a long, hypnotic, percussion-led track built for big rooms.
C+C Music Factory feat. El General - "Robi-Rob's Boriqua Anthem"
El General, the Panamanian Spanish reggae pioneer, broke through on this track from C+C Music Factory's 1994 album Anything Goes. Louie Vega has called it one of the biggest Latin house records ever.
Proyecto Uno - "Tiburón"
The Dominican American group Proyecto Uno brought merengue into Latin house in the early 1990s. "Tiburón" mixes merengue, house and hip-hop, and it kicked off a run of hits for them.
Nuyorican Soul feat. India - "Runaway"
Nuyorican Soul was Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez's 1996 project, and the album is often listed among house music's finest. "Runaway" is the standout, with India's vocal over a live, disco-rich groove.
Afro Medusa - "Pasilda" (Knee Deep Mix)
One of the most recognizable latin house tracks ever made. It first came out in 1999, picked up momentum at Miami's Winter Music Conference in 2000, and hit number 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music chart that November.
DJ Gregory - "Tropical Soundclash"
French producer DJ Gregory released this on his own Faya Combo label after founding it in 2002. It sits between Latin and Afro house, all loose percussion and swing, and DJs still treat it as an anthem.
Modern Essentials (2018 to 2022)
Dennis Cruz feat. Martina Camargo - "El Sueño"
Released on Moon Harbour in May 2018, this is [Latin tech house](/blog/latin-house-subgenres) rather than classic latin house. The Spanish vocal over a rolling groove made it one of the most played tracks of its era, and it is still a reliable floor-filler.
HUGEL & Cumbiafrica - "Morenita"
The track that put latin house back in the mainstream. Released on Cr2 in 2021, "Morenita" spent three weeks at number 1 on Beatport's House chart, carried by Lina Rojas's vocal from Cumbiafrica.
HUGEL & Cumbiafrica - "El Sueno"
The official follow-up to "Morenita," and not to be confused with the Dennis Cruz track above. Same partnership, same catchy vocal approach, slightly different energy.
John Summit - "La Danza"
John Summit is a tech house artist, but "La Danza" is his Latin-tinged moment. It came out on Defected in 2022 with Spanish vocals and a heavy bassline, and it went to number 1 on Beatport.
Jude & Frank feat. Toto La Momposina - "La Luna"
This one is special. The Italian duo sampled "Curura" by Toto La Momposina, the Afro-Colombian folk legend, and turned it into something close to a prayer on the dance floor.
Sllash & Doppe - "Bamboleo"
A dance floor rework of the Gipsy Kings classic that reached number 1 on Beatport. If your crowd knows the original, this one lands instantly.
Current Tracks (2023 to Now)
HUGEL, Merk & Kremont, Lirico En La Casa - "Marianela"
HUGEL teamed up with Italian duo Merk & Kremont and Dominican artist Lirico En La Casa for this one. It gives a homegrown dembow anthem a full house treatment.
TCTS, Gotsome, Cumbiafrica - "Fuego"
A three-way collaboration that adds a strong Latin twist to big-room house. Cumbiafrica's vocals keep it rooted in the genre.
Tom & Collins, Mr. Pig - "Esta Pegao"
Mexico City duo Tom & Collins sample Proyecto Uno's 1993 hit of the same name on this 2024 Toolroom Trax release. It is a smart bridge between the merengue house era and the modern sound, and a good way to show younger crowds where the genre came from. Not to be confused with Carloh's 2022 "Esta Pegao" on Solid Grooves Raw, which flips the same Proyecto Uno hook for latin tech house.
Deorro & Vikina - "Bambole"
Deorro, the Los Angeles producer with Mexican roots, works with Miami singer Vikina here. It is bright, festive and built for a party.
Sofia Kourtesis - "Si Te Portas Bonito"
The deepest pick on the list. The Peruvian producer blends house with Andean textures and dreamy vocal loops, and it is a perfect sunrise track.
A Quick Note on Guaracha and Crossover Hits
You will see tracks like Farruko's "Pepas" and "Baila Conmigo" by Dayvi and Victor Cardenas on a lot of latin house playlists. They are big Latin dance records, and Victor Cardenas is a Medellín producer, which I love.
Strictly speaking, though, they are guaracha, a mix of tribal house and Colombian cumbia, rather than latin house. They are fun to know about, but I have kept them off the main list.
Latin House Classics Everyone Should Know
If you want to understand the genre properly, spend time with the latin house classics. Every modern track on this list borrows from them.
Latin rhythms were part of house from the very beginning. The disco records house grew out of were full of congas, timbales and cowbells, and Latin freestyle was already huge in 1980s New York when house started arriving from Chicago.
The first true latin house records came in the mid to late 1980s. Jesse Velez's "Girls Out On The Floor" in Chicago, Raz's "Amour Puerto Riqueno" and Liz Torres's "Can't Get Enough" all belong to this first wave.
Then came the golden age. In the early to mid 1990s, Masters at Work, Erick Morillo, Armand Van Helden, Norty Cotto and many others pushed out Latin-inspired house through New York labels like Cutting Records, Strictly Rhythm and Nervous Records.
From that era, these are the latin house classics I would put first:
River Ocean feat. India - "Love & Happiness (Yemaya y Ochún)": the vocal anthem of the golden age C+C Music Factory feat. El General - "Robi-Rob's Boriqua Anthem": where Spanish reggae met New York house Proyecto Uno - "Tiburón": the merengue house blueprint Nuyorican Soul feat. India - "Runaway": proof that latin house could be album music too
Around the turn of the millennium, the sound spread to Europe. Afro Medusa's "Pasilda" came out of the UK, and DJ Gregory's "Tropical Soundclash" came out of the French scene. Both are still played today.
Essential Artists Behind These Tracks
A few names come up again and again in this list. Follow these artists and you will hear plenty more great latin house.
Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez (Masters at Work): The most important names in the genre. Vega is a Puerto Rican New Yorker whose uncle was salsa legend Héctor Lavoe, and his work with Kenny Dope shaped the golden age of latin house.
India: The voice behind "Love & Happiness" and "Runaway." She moved between house, freestyle and salsa, and became one of New York salsa's biggest stars in the 1990s.
HUGEL: The French DJ and producer is widely credited with driving the modern latin house wave, starting with "Morenita." He also runs his own Afro and Latin house label, Make The Girls Dance.
Cumbiafrica: The vocal force on "Morenita," "El Sueno" and "Fuego." If a modern latin house song has an unforgettable hook, there is a fair chance Cumbiafrica is on it.
Dennis Cruz: The Spanish producer brings Latin rhythms into tech house better than almost anyone. Start with "El Sueño" and work outward.
Tom & Collins and Deorro: Two names keeping the Mexican and Mexican American side of the scene strong, with a real respect for the genre's roots.
